Dipsacus fullonum, also called Dipsacus sylvestris, is an herbaceous biennial flowering plant from the family Caprifoliaceae, commonly referred to as the honeysuckle family. The plant grows anywhere between 1 to 2.5 meters in height and is characterized by its cylindrical-shaped lavender flowers that dry off to form cones of hard bracts.
D. fullonum is commonly known with the names of Wild Teasel, Fuller’s Teasel, and Common Teasel.

D. fullonum’s root is commonly used in herbal medicine for Lyme disease. It is also used to improve blood circulation, strengthen and repair bones, tissues, and tendons, and support and improve kidney and liver functions. 

Fun Fact

The word ‘Dipsacus’ is derived from a Greek word, which means ‘to be thirsty’, referring to the cups formed by its sessile leaves that collect rain water.
