The role of breakfast in our life
Since childhood, many of us were taught that breakfast is the most important meal of the day that should never be missed. However, some may think starting off with a big breakfast of fried eggs and bacon is the way to go. Others feel great with a cup of yogurt. And some people don’t eat breakfast at all. And this is absolutely OK! To keep the digestive system working properly, it is important to nourish it when there is such a need - namely, when you want to eat. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to eat breakfast. Listening and trusting your body is an excellent way to do what's best for you. If you are hungry, make breakfast more nourishing and add more proteins. Ingredients such as eggs, avocados, legumes, meat and fish are great for this. And if your body hasn't woken up yet, then allow yourself a glass of water, a cup of weak tea or coffee, or have breakfast later. Paying attention to how you feel after a meal can determine if that specific food is beneficial for you.
Original dish that is perfect for breakfast - delicious green tortillas!
INGREDIENTS
3 cups flour
½ - 1 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons olive oil
¼ - pound fresh or frozen spinach
¾ - cup warm milk
INSTRUCTIONS
In a large bowl combine flour, salt and 4 tablespoons of oil. Mix the oil and flour until the dough is crumbled.
Combine warmed milk and spinach in blender and mix until smooth. Add spinach-milk mixture to the flour and stir until smooth. On a light dusting of flour, lay out the dough and knead. Add flour if needed to achieve smooth dough. Let the dough rest for 20 minutes.
Divide dough it into equal parts and, on a lightly floured surface, roll out to about a quarter-inch thick. Fry tortillas in a dry frying pan over medium heat until lightly browned. Leftover dough can be frozen and used later.
These tortillas can be used in lieu of bread. Spread hummus or your favorite sauce on tortillas. Add chopped vegetables, slices of fried or boiled egg, meat or fish - and your nourishing snack is ready.
Bon Appetit!
