Mainly cultivated for its seeds, cocoa beans or cocoa beans, cacao tree has at least 4,000 years’ long history of use, for health purposes, in various traditional medicinal systems. Having the scientific name Theobroma Cacao, the plant belongs to the Malvaceaeor the mallow family. It is an evergreen flowering plant and can grow up to 20 to 40 feet tall.

Cacao tree’s scientific name Theobroma, meaning foods of the gods, came from a mythology associated with the plant. According to the Mayan folklore, cacao (kakaw) tree was discovered by their gods, on a mountain, and was later gifted to the humans (Mayans) by Plumed Serpent (one of their gods).
Raw organic cacao beans contain 40 times more antioxidants than blueberries and more calcium than cow’s milk.

Nice taste
